Parliament Speaker discusses recovery of Iraqi artifacts with Serbian leaders
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Parliament Speaker, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, called for the recovery of Iraqi artifacts smuggled into Serbia.
Al-Halbousi met on Tuesday with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, where they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries as well as cooperation in the education, agriculture, and health sectors, according to a statement released by the office of the Speaker of the Parliament.
The two sides also discussed cooperation at the parliamentary level and the activation of friendship committees.
Al-Halbousi indicated that the Iraqi Parliament supports the government in achieving economic partnerships in various sectors as well as its strategic projects, calling for further cooperation with the Serbian authorities to recover Iraqi antiquities seized in Serbia.
The Speaker of Parliament expressed his appreciation for Serbia’s efforts in this regard.
The Serbian President expressed appreciation for the Iraqi stance supporting the sovereignty of Serbia, confirming his country’s readiness to cooperate with Iraq in different fields to serve the interests of the two countries.
Al-Halbousi also met with the Serbian Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, where they talked about promoting bilateral cooperation.
The meeting addressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in various sectors, in addition to the importance of returning the Iraqi antiquities seized by the Serbian authorities during an attempt to have them smuggled outside the country.
