Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Two security sources said that roadside explosives and gunfire claimed the lives of at least 10 people and injured 14 more in an attack on a vehicle and rescuers in Diyala governorate in eastern Iraq on Thursday night.

According to the sources, the incident near the town of Amraniyah started with the explosion of two roadside bombs that damaged a vehicle carrying several passengers, according to Reuters.

The sources told Reuters that the attack was reportedly targeting the relatives of an Iraqi lawmaker.

According to the reports, sniper fire was directed towards locals who had come to the site to assist.

Security forces declared a curfew in the neighborhood and said they were still looking for the people who were behind the attack.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, condemned the attack and called on the Diyala Operations Command to maintain security in the governorate, quickly arrest those responsible for the attack, and open an urgent investigation to determine their motives and bring them to justice.
