Rocket attack targets Turkish base in northern Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Counter-Terrorism Group, a security organization in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region, mentioned on Wednesday that eight rockets were fired at the Zilkan base, a Turkish military base in Nineveh governorate.
The Counter-Terrorism Group also confirmed that two of the eight rockets landed inside the military base.
Turkey confirmed that the attack took place and vowed to retaliate, according to Reuters.
“From time to time, there are some attacks, and we are retaliating against these attacks and necessary measures are taken,” the Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar, stated.
A Turkish security source mentioned that the attack caused no damage and there were no casualties, Reuters mentioned.
An Iraqi security source who insisted to remain anonymous said an Iraqi person had been wounded in the attack.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Turkey launched Operation Claw Lock in April 2022 against the strongholds of the Kurdistan Worker’ Party (PKK) in Metina, Zap and Avashin-Basyan in northern Iraq.
Turkey is carrying out operations to combat the PKK, which it accuses of targeting its forces and citizens, and which is active in several countries in the region, including Syria, Iraq and Iran.
