Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, announced on Wednesday that a second regional summit on Iraq will be held in Amman on December 20, with the participation of Iran and Turkey.

Hussein, in a joint press conference with the foreign ministers of Jordan and Egypt, said that the second version of Baghdad conference will be held in Amman on December 20.

Hussein explained that Iran and Turkey participated in the first conference and they are expected to participate in the coming conference.

“This partnership and cooperation conference was held mainly to support Iraq, and when we talk about support for Iraq, this also implies support for Iraq’s sovereignty,” Hussein stated.

“We are facing great challenges related to food security, drug security, and energy security, and because they are challenges that go beyond the borders of the country, we need regional and international relations to face these challenges,” Hussein said.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister talked about interventions in Iraq, and mentioned that Iraq is continuously communicating with Tehran and Ankara to reach solutions to protect the sovereignty of Iraq, and to prevent opposing organizations from carrying out operations against neighboring countries.

The Elysee Palace in Paris issued a statement a few days ago confirming that the Jordanian capital, Amman, will host the summit before the end of 2022, and it will be similar to the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership held in August 2021.

The Elysee Palace issued the statement following a phone call on Sunday between the French President, Emmanuel Macron, and the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

Al-Sudani and Macron discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between France and Iraq, highlighted the regional situation, and expressed their concern about the escalation of tensions, the statement mentioned.

Al-Sudani and Macron agreed to prepare, in coordination with Jordan, for the next summit that will bring together leaders of the region and the French President before the end of the year, the statement explained.

On August 28, 2021, Baghdad Conference was held in the Iraqi capital, with the participation of France, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran and Turkey, in addition to several regional and international organizations.
