Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The South Refineries Company confirmed on Saturday that it has taken measures to increase production and achieve self-sufficiency.

The company noted that Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) is considered one of the most important conversion processes to develop the Basrah refinery, which is one of the major refineries in Iraq, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

Assistant project manager Habib Abdul-Amir told INA that the production units in the South Refineries Company were controlled from separate control rooms, but they were combined into one central control room to enhance operational efficiency and improve safety.

Abdul-Amir explained that the central control room contains 37 control units to regulate production.

The Iraqi official indicated that the central control room is managed by a team of specialized engineers and technicians who have extensive experience in this field.

Abdul-Amir elaborated that the FCC conversion process is considered one of the most important development projects in the Basrah refinery, adding that the step aims to increase the production of high-quality oil products and enhance self-sufficiency in Iraq.

The FCC is the conversion process used in petroleum refineries to convert the high-boiling-point, high-molecular-weight hydrocarbon fractions of petroleum into gasoline, alkene gases, and other petroleum products.
