Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Elysee Palace in Paris announced on Tuesday that a member of the French Special Forces had been killed in Iraq during an anti-terrorism operation in support of the Iraqi army.

The French presidency mentioned in a statement that the French President, Emmanuel Macron, learned with great sadness and sorrow of the killing of Paratrooper Sergeant Nicolas Mazier on Monday in Iraq.

Mazier’s unit was supporting an Iraqi unit in an anti-terrorism operation, where other members of his unit were injured, according to the French Presidency.

“Sergeant Nicolas Mazier, who was fighting for France and our security, has fallen in Iraq. The whole nation mourns him,” President Macron said via X, formerly Twitter.

Mazier is the third French soldier to be killed in Iraq in one month after a soldier was killed during an operational maneuver on August 21 and another soldier in a road accident on August 18.
