Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Turkish drones targeted a residential complex north of Sinjar town in Nineveh governorate in northern Iraq, the stronghold of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which opposes Ankara, amid reports that the bombardment caused casualties, Al-Arabiya News reported.

Ankara, which has had military bases in northern Iraq for 25 years, launched military operations against the PKK militants stationed in training camps and bases in the northern part of the country.

Last March, a security official in an armed faction loyal to the PKK and his guard were killed in a bombardment carried out by a Turkish drone, which targeted his car in Sinjar in northern Iraq, according to a statement issued by the Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

The Turkish army rarely comments on such attacks.

Turkish military operations in northern Iraq put the relations between Ankara and Baghdad under pressure.

Even though the two countries are important trading partners, Iraq alleges Turkey to violating its territorial sovereignty.

Iraq has repeatedly demanded that Turkey withdraw from its northern territories.

Turkey, the United States, and the European Union consider the PKK a ‘terrorist group.’
