Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced on Tuesday that the drilling of two new oil wells has completed in the Zubair oilfield in southern Iraq, west of Basra governorate, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Head of the Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC), Bassem Abdul Karim Nassir, said in a statement that the technical and engineering staff in the IDC completed drilling the Zubair / 544 oil well at a depth of 2419 meters using IDC-37 drilling rig.

Nassir added that IDC completed drilling the Zubair / 549 oil well at a depth of 3617 meters using IDC-38 drilling rig, according to INA.

The two new oil wells are part of the contract concluded with the Italian company ENI to drill oil wells in the Zubair oilfield in Basra governorate, in cooperation with Schlumberger, the oilfield services company, Nassir explained.

Nassir elaborated that IDC completed drilling four wells successively within this project in record times before the expected completion date, INA reported.

The head of IDC also indicated that the drilling operations were completed while taking into consideration environment and safety standards and without any accidents or injuries recorded.
