Two PMF fighters killed in an attack carried out by ISIS
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Sources from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and Iraqi security said on Sunday that two PMF fighters have been killed in an attack claimed by ISIS terrorists.
The two fighters died of their wounds while they were engaged in a battle against ISIS terrorists in Salah Al-Din governorate, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
A security source told AFP that the attack took place on Saturday night in the Al-Zarka neighborhood in the northern part of Salah Al-Din.
The PMF is an alliance of formerly paramilitary groups that were mostly pro-Iranian and are now part of the Iraqi military. Their fighters have played a significant role in the war against ISIS.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack and reported that two PMF soldiers were killed and three others were injured.
Hours following the attack, the Iraqi Security Media Cell (ISMC) announced that four ISIS terrorists, including a leader, had been killed in an air strike in Diyala governorate.
Iraq announced in late 2017 the liberation of all its territories from the grip of ISIS, but the authorities are constantly launching security operations to pursue remnants of the terrorist group that carry out attacks from time to time in the country.
