Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, mentioned last week that one of the committees will consider this week a legislation that would revoke two authorizations for previous wars in Iraq.

The step represents a new attempt to reaffirm the role of the Congress in deciding whether to send troops to fight in other countries.

Schumer explained that the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations will discuss the authorizations issued in 1991 and 2002 for the use of military force.

Schumer clarified that this will pave the way for a possible vote in the full Senate before members leave for the April recess.

“We need to put the Iraq war behind us forever. To do that, we need to abolish the legal authority under which the war began,” Schumer stated.

Democratic and Republican lawmakers from the Senate and House of Representatives introduced a legislation to repeal the two long-standing pieces of legislation in early February.
