UAE supports water supply projects in Sinjar, Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – In collaboration with “Nadia Murad’s Initiative,” the United Arab Emirates has announced that it would contribute AED 1.83 million ($498,000) to the second phase of a comprehensive development project to provide water supply and sanitation in the Iraqi region of Sinjar.
“We aim through the second phase of the project to improve water supply and access to sanitation facilities for residents of nine additional villages in Iraq’s Sinjar district,” said Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs for the UAE. “The signing of the agreement follows the success of the first phase of the project, where clean water and sanitation were successfully provided to six villages in the Sinjar district, for the benefit of more than 81,000 people.”
Nadia Murad, UN Goodwill Ambassador and 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winner expressed her sincere gratitude to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for his initiatives and support, which seek to increase opportunities for peace in the nation and bring stability to the Iraqi people.
Murad also expressed her gratitude for the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian relief and essential services in Sinjar, which are exemplified by the signing of the agreement to carry out the project’s second phase as a continuation of the efforts undertaken over the previous three years.
“The UAE is working to support all stabilization projects in the areas affected by the attacks of the terrorist organization Daesh in the Sinjar district of Iraq, by providing fundamental services to the most vulnerable groups such as women, children and the elderly from the Yezidi minority,” added Al Shamsi.
