US-Iraq Higher Coordinating Committee will meet next week
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The spokesperson for the US Department of State, Matthew Miller, revealed on Monday that the upcoming US-Iraq Higher Coordinating Committee meeting will be held next Monday.
Miller said during a press briefing that the meeting will highlight shared bilateral priorities and the broad relationship between our two countries, including energy independence, financial reform, services for the Iraqi people, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, and enhancing educational and cultural relations.
The US official elaborated that representatives from Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will participate in these discussions.
Miller explained that the United States supports a strong, resilient Iraqi Kurdistan Region within a sovereign, stable, and secure federal Iraq.
The State Department spokesperson added that the United States encourages the federal government in Baghdad and the KRG to redouble efforts to resolve longstanding issues, bringing economic benefits to all Iraqis.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and the US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, reviewed on Monday the agenda of his upcoming visit to the United States, scheduled for mid-April.
Late in March, the White House announced that US President Joe Biden and Al-Sudani would meet on April 15 to talk about the deployment of US troops.
Al-Sudani had previously demanded the withdrawal of US soldiers, which were repositioned over ten years ago in an effort to eliminate ISIS terrorists.
