Washington, UN condemn Iranian attacks on Kurdistan
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The United States of America condemned on Monday the Iranian attacks targeting the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
“The United States strongly condemns the Iranian drone and missile attack on the Kurdistan region,” U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, said via Twitter.
Romanowski called on Iran to stop attacking Iraq and the Iraqi people, stressing that the United States stands with the Iraqi government.
“We condemn the violations against the Iraqi sovereignty in Baghdad and the Kurdistan region,” Romanowski added.
Drones of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard attacked earlier on Monday headquarters of a party opposing Tehran’s regime in the outskirts of Erbil governorate in Iraqi Kurdistan, killing two people and wounding nine, according to officials.
The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) condemned the Iranian attacks that targeted Kurdistan region.
“We condemn the renewed Iranian missile and drone attacks on Kurdistan region as they violate the Iraqi sovereignty,” the United Nations mentioned.
The United Nations stressed that Iraq’s territorial integrity must be respected, and that dialogue between Iraq and Iran on common security concerns is the only way forward.
Earlier on Monday, Iranian media reported that the Revolutionary Guard, using missiles and drones, bombarded headquarters of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) in Koysanjak district in Koya town in Erbil governorate.
Despite local and international calls rejecting and denouncing the Iranian attacks, the attack is a part of several Iranian attacks against the Iraqi sovereignty in the past years.
