Abtan from Basra: Iraq ready to receive FIFA delegation on April

Basra (IraqiNews.com ) The Minister of Youth and Sports confirmed readiness of Iraq to receive the delegation of the FIFA in order to end the sports embargo on holding football matches on Iraqi fields.

Minister of Youth and Sports Abdul Hussein Abtan said in a press conference held in Basra “Representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and eight other ministries met in Basra on Monday to discuss necessary steps to overcome the administrative impediments that hinder completing the Sports City in Basra.”

Abtan appreciated the security stability in Basra province in comparison to the disturbed situation in other Iraqi provinces at this time.

He stressed that “Holding international sports events in Iraq requires asking assistance from foreign specialized security companies to work alongside with the Iraqi Security Forces in Basra province. ”

For his part, Basra governor Majid al-Nasrawi said during the conference “Lifting the embargo imposed on Iraqi stadiums will reflect positively on the economic and social situations in Basra and Iraq in general.” /End/
