Gulf Inspection Committee denies withdrawing 22nd Gulf Cup championship from Basra
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Gulf Inspection Committee denied the reports which talked about withdrawing holding Khaliji 22nd championship from Basra and hold it in Riyadh instead, stressing “The Committee is following Basra’s preparations to host the championship.”
This denial came after the meeting that was held on last Wednesday at building of the Gulf Football Association in Dubai in presence of Iraqi officials from the Ministry of Sports and Basra province.
Saoud al-Mohanadi, head of the Gulf Inspection Committee, stressed that “We are pleased to hear good reports about the Iraqi province’s arrangements to host this sport event,” noting “We used to hear such rumors concerning withdrawing the 22nd Gulf Cup from Basra, but we are working side by side with the local commission in Basra to finish all the requirements of holding the championship as planned.”
Media reports have reported that the meeting of the Sports Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council instructed to abandon holding Khaliji 22nd Cup from Basra due to the security unstable situation there and hold it in Saudi Arabia instead.
