24-hour electricity supply promised in Kurdistan

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The Kurdistan Ministry of electricity promised citizens a 24-hour electricity supply during the coming month of June, depending on national network and private generators. Minister Yaseen Abu Bakr said, in a press conference attended by IraqiNews.com, that the Kurdistan region will begin its summer time table by supplying 20 hours of electricity depending on the national network, and 4 hours by private generators. “The average supply of electricity in 2008 was 6 hours per day, which later increased to 12 hours in 2009. This was then further developed to reach 17 hours in 2010 until we reached 20 hours per day,” he elaborated. He pointed out that the ministry will coordinate with the private sector to provide electricity during the cut off period. The Minister confirmed that the night supply will be from 12 midnight till the morning without interruption. He pointed out the independence of Kurdistan electricity network form the national network in other parts of the country. “We have now a national network after connecting the three Kurdish provinces, but we share with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity in buying power from neighboring countries,” he disclosed.
