Attack on journalist photographer denounced – Observatory
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Press Freedoms Observatory denounced today the attack against a photo journalist in Tahreer Square yesterday during the Friday demonstration. The attack was made against a journalist from AK news (Kurdistan News Agency). The Observatory pointed out that the “aggressions against journalists have increased by 55 percent.” According to the statement issued by the Observatory, it called police and military commanders to “control their personnel and prevent them from attacking field journalists, as well as punishing who commit such atrocities”. The statement added that the attacks against the journalists during on year period since May 2010 have been increased by 55 percent, which reached to 372 violations. The Observatory pointed that “there is a plan to control the media organs, their movements, and terrorizing them with all possible means”. RM (TS)/SR 99
