Basra’s new governor reads oath

BASRA / IraqiNews.com: The new Governor of southern Iraq ’s Province of Basra , Khalaf Abdul-Samad, has read the constitutional oath and received his post officially, according to a statement by the Province Council’s media director on Thursday.   “Basra’s new Governor, Khalaf Abdul-Samad has read the constitutional oath on Thursday afternoon, officially receiving his post, Hashim Lu’eby told IraqiNews.com news agency, adding that Abdul-Samad had “discussed some of the projects related to the services in the Province, promising to implement them.”   Abul-Samad had won the Basra Governor’s post in a voting that gave him 19 out of 34 votes by the Basra Province ’s Council on 19/4/2011, according to a Council spokesman.   Basra ’s former Governor, Dr. Shiltagh abboud, had resigned in response to demonstrations that demanded his resignation.   SKH (ST) 577
