Campaign to minimize illiteracy in Iraq – UNESCO
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: UNESCO announced today the launching of an illiteracy program in Iraq. In a statement, as received by IraqiNews.com from UNESCO‘s office in Baghdad, it stressed that the program aims at eradicating illiteracy and organizing life skills for more than 6000 socially weak males and females. The program will establish social education centers in partnership with non-governmental organization and the Ministry of Education. A donation of 40 thousand dollars shall be granted to each 25 organizations to be chosen. UNESCO‘s office will provide these centers with the necessary educational equipment. This project is expected to last for four years to support the Iraqi government and civil society to implement a national illiteracy campaign to decrease illiteracy by 50 percent by 2015.
