Center to defend journalists in Iraqi courts 2/11/2012 5:43 PM ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The head of Legal Defense in Sulaimaniya, Sardasht Abdul Rahman, said today that there is plan to establish a center to defend journalists in Iraq and Kurdistan region, in cooperation with Metro Center to observe violations against journalists. She added that the aim is to provide attorneys to defend the journalists, and vice-versa. Mrs Rahman added that a workshop was completed to the lawyers to be acquainted with the cases put against the journalists, pointing out that the workshop was organized by Democratic Development and Human Rights Center (DHRD), in cooperation with International Media Support (IMS). She told IraqiNews.com that the center will have two branches, the first in Sulaimaniya and the second in Arbil provinces, with the aim of defending the journalists in courts and paying lawyers’ fees. A hot line shall be opened between the journalists and the center in case of need, she continued. RM (TS)/SR 2604
