Chinese worker drowns in Tigris River
WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: A Chinese worker drowned in the Tigris River, north of Kut city, police sources said today. The source told IraqiNews.com that the deceased worked in a Zubaidiya power station to be implemented by Shanghai company, 75 km north of Kut. He was trying to fish in the river, but slipped into it where he was pulled by the tide and could not make it to the shore. The founding stone for the power station was laid down on 3 October, 2009 with a cost of 940 million dollars, to be implemented by the Chinese company, but the work was stopped after a short period of time. The capacity of the power station was reported to be 1320 megawatts. Kut, the center of Wassit province, lies 180 km southeast of the capital, Baghdad. RM (TP)/SR 900
