Committee calls to unite to face cholera
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Member of the parliament’s health and environment committee Basem al-Sharief on Thursday called on ministries concerned to unite in the face of cholera disease after the increasing number of cases which reach 428. “The only solution for cholera is to unite efforts of all ministries concerned (municipalities, health, environment, water resources) because every ministry can not work with other ministries’ help,” al-Sharieh, who is also member of al-Fadhila party, told IraqiNews.com. He underlined that his committee will stress in the report that will be referred to the parliament on the importance of the attendance of ministers concerned to be acquainted with the reasons of the outbreak of the cholera epidemic. The number of dead remains five because of the medical treatment offered by the ministry for those infected, the spokesperson noted, adding that no single case was reported in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. The first Cholera case was detected in the northern Iraqi province of Sulaimaniya in July 2007. The epidemic spread in central and southern Iraq, mainly in Baghdad, Diwaniya and Missan. SH (S) 1
