Decentralization conference begins in Arbil
ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The National Conference for Decentralization and Local Government began today in Arbil. The conference, organized by the UNDP in cooperation with the planning ministries within the federal and Kurdistan governments. In a statement issued by the Kurdish government, the head of the region’s government Barham Saleh said in the opening ceremony that “the adoption of decentralization system is an important matter in new Iraq and Kurdistan.” “The Iraqi constitution clearly tackled federalism and democracy on the bases of decentralization and distribution of powers”, Saleh added. He stressed the importance of deepening decentralization culture in the country and the importance of conducting the general census in Iraq.
