Iraq attends meetings of Arab Transportation & Overland Federation in Cairo

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq‘s Ministry of Transportation has announced on Wednesday that its delegation attended the meetings of the Technical Committee of the Arab Transportation & Overland Federation, held in Cairo today. The ministry’s delegation was present in Cairo to discuss a number of issues of common interest, including a project to activate the Committee for Facilitating Transportation & Trade among Arab States. “The General Company for Transportation of Passengers & Delegations, a delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Transportation, have participated in the 24th Meeting of the Technical Committee for the Arab Federation for Overland Federation. The meeting, held in the headquarters of the Arab League’s Secretariat-General in Cairo, was represented by the Company’s Director General, Mohammed Hassan Badr,” a ministry statement noted. It pointed out that the meeting’s schedule had included a project for organizing the activity of the Committee for Facilitating Transportation & Trade Among Arab States, including a model for following up the implementation of a pan-Arab Overland Plan to join the Arab Railways, as well as the thesis for overland safety.” “The 4th draft for the agreement for organizing the transportation of goods throughout joint Arab states, supported by Iraq‘s Transportation Ministry, had been opposed by Kuwait, who rejected the 4th draft. The Committee ratified the 5th draft to come into effect in the beginning of January, 2011. SKH/SR 1
