Iraq’s Kurdistan Parliament convenes amid opposition’s boycott
ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The Parliament of north Iraq’s Kurdistan Region has held a session on Monday to discuss a number of laws, amid the continuation of its boycott by the three Kurdish opposition blocs – the Goran (Change) Movement, the Islamic Union and the Islamic Group. “The session’s program includes the discussion of a draft-law on integrity in Kurdistan, as well as a draft-law to ban party activity in the ranks of the Pesh Merga (Kurdish armed forces) and the Asayish (Kurdish Security) forces,” the Kurdistan Parliament’s Speaker, Kamal Kirkuki said. The Kurdistan Parliament had adjourned its session last week for this week, to discuss the draft-law on the budget of Kurdistan parties, in order to allow to the opposition parties to attend the Parliament’s session. The Kurdistan opposition blocs had announced their boycott to the Parliament’s sessions since the beginning of the current’s sessions, demanding the holding of emergency sessions to discuss the current circumstances in Kurdistan, especially the demonstrations that took place in Sulaimaniya city since mid February.
