Iraq’s Kurdistan Region under heavy rains
SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: North Iraq’s Kurdistan Region has witnessed heavy rains over the past 24 hours, putting an end to the drought that threatened the region. Snowfall is expected in the region’s mountains, according to a Meteorological source in Sulaimaniya city on Sunday. “Most areas of Kurdistan Region have witnessed rainfall with thunder storms and a heavy drop in temperature,” Director of Sulaimaniya’s Meteorological Office, Dara Hassan, told IraqiNews.com news agency, expecting “snow fall on the mountainous areas, where temperature would drop to below Zero Celsius.” Large numbers of Kurdistan people had served special “prayers for rain” recently, praying for God Almighty to bring them rain. This year, the rainy season was delayed creating fears of a drought that would affect agriculture and sources of water in the region. SKH/SR 66
