Iraq’s Parliament to withdraw trust from Elections Commission if it fails to give non-convincing answers.
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi Parliament is expected to raise several questions to the High Independent Elections Commission during the Parliament’s next session, and in the event of its failure to give convincing answers, the Parliament shall withdraw trust from the Commission, an MP said on Wednesday. “If the Commission fails to answer the Parliament’s questions in a convincing way during the Parliament’s session next Wednesday, the position of the Commission’s Chairman and some of its members shall be embarrassing and we expect the withdrawal of trust from the Commission,” Legislature Mohammed Iqbal from the Center Alliance told IraqiNews.com news agency. Iqbal said that in the event of the withdrawal of the trust from the current Elections Commission, other candidates would be assigned, according to new procedures and mechanism. The Legislature for the National Coalition, Mohammed al-Sayhoud had stated to IraqiNews.com recently that the Parliament would withdraw the trust from the Elections Commission, due to its involvement with administrative and financial corruption, charging the Commission with haven’t been “dependent or neutral, and working according to its own rules.” SKH (IT) 492
