KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi team of physicians achieved a surgical breakthrough after amputating two legs of a baby born with four, a local health spokesman in Karbala said on Thursday. “A team from the obstetrics & gynecology hospital in Karbala operated on a two-month-old infant to amputate two of its four legs,” Jamal Mahdi Abbas, the director of the Karbala Health Department spokesman, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The successful surgery, the first of its kind in Iraq and the 18th worldwide, was conducted over two stages with each taking more than two hours,” he noted. Abbas added that the baby girl is in good health and under constant monitoring. Karbala lies 108 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. AmR (TP) 632
