Pilgrimage authority demands 2 billion dinars compensation from journalist

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Society to Defend Journalists’ Rights demanded Iraqi court to reject a suit against journalist Majid Al-Ka’bi submitted by Higher Haj (pilgrimage) Authority. The authority demanded a compensation of two billion Iraqi dinars. the head of the Society Ibraheem Al-Saraji told IraqiNews.com that “the writer expressed his opinion about the work of the Authority without abusing terms”. “This is his constitutional right to express his opinion”, he added. Saraji added that such suit cases against the journalists and press institutions is a limitation to the freedom of press and free expression, as well as abrogating a constitutional article. “We call upon the publications and media court not to hear such cases that perplex the journalistic work”, he concluded.
