Rare infant surgery ends successfully in Thi-Qar

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi medical team successfully operated on a five-month-old baby and removed a large tumor in his left thigh at al-Imam al-Hussein Hospital in Thi-Qar province, southern Iraq, according to a health ministry press release on Sunday. “The surgery is the first of its kind as a 10×10 tumor on the sciatic nerve in Muntadhar Alaa Naji’s left thigh was removed successfully without any complications,” Dr. Kareem al-Zarkani, a fracture surgeon at al-Imam al-Hussein Hospital, told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The child was saved from the perils of this tumor that could have at some stage caused him paralysis,” he said.
