Shakira of Kurdistan to roll some heads in Arabic
ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: Lithe young Kurdish pop singer Dashni Murad, better known as Shakira of Kurdistan, revealed Sunday that she will be releasing a new album containing some songs in Arabic by Egyptian lyricist Hani al-Sagheer in addition to the Kurdish songs. “One of the Kurdish songs in the album is a tribute to my parents to express gratitude to them for the posture and fame I am experiencing now,” said the long-haired graceful Murad in statements to IraqiNews.com news agency. The Shakira of Kurdistan’s song clips have been severely criticized by her conservative Kurdish community. “I will never give up my unique style. All my songs are popular everywhere. Even children learn them by heart,” said a defiant Murad, who carries a Dutch passport and moves between the Netherlands and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. In a part of the world where many women are expected to be demure, the 23-year-old has been dubbed the “Shakira of Kurdistan” for her suggestive dance moves modeled on the Colombian-Lebanese star Shakira.
