MISSAN / IraqiNews.com: Southern Iraq’s Missan Province ’s House of Culture has honored 40 Iraqi journalists, among them the Martyr of IraqiNews.com news agency, Nizar al-Rathy, on the occasion of the 142 nd Anniversary of the Iraqi Press. “Missan’s House of Culture has honored 40 career and young Iraqi journalists, among them the Martyr of the Iraqi Press, Nizar al-Rathy, in a celebration on Tuesday on the occasion of the Iraqi Press Day,” the House’s Director, Sabah al-Silawy told IraqiNews.com news agency. Silawy called on all parties, having judicial cases against journalists, to withdraw them, stemming from the principle of freedom of opinion, assigned by the Iraqi Constitution, “in order to boost the observing role of the press and respect of the true and free word.” “The journalists have demanded, during the celebration, the passing of the Iraqi Journalists Protection Law by the Parliament, being the minimum demand of the journalists, who have shed huge bloods, in defense of their high vocational principles,” Silawy said.
