Special committee to settle dossier of Iraqis lost since 2003

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A special committee was formed in Iraq to settle the dossier of Iraqis lost since 2003, the Chairman of the Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Salim al-Jiboury said on Monday.   “Our Committee, in cooperation with the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has formed a committee to settle the issue of Iraqis lost or detained since 2003,” Jiboury told a news conference.   He said that the Commander-in-Chief’s office had shown the committee the details about the detainees, as about 9,000 prisoners have been released and about 17,000 others sent to courts, meaning that the total detainees and prisoners exceed 24,000 during this period.   “The Committee shall begin its activity next Saturday, to receive all applications related to the lost people, and we are keen that the committee would play a real role to settle the dossier of the lost people, along with the issues of detainees,” he said.   On her part, the Committee’s Member, Maha al-Douri, told the news conference that her committee “wants  to know any Iraqi family, that has lost her members; that is why we shall have a role in the committee, that shall be formed together with the office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, to follow up the fate of the lost Iraqis.”   “Our committee shall have a role inside the provinces, through receiving the complains by any family that has lost members, through communicating with the Human Rights Committee, through the offices of the Iraqi Parliament in Baghdad and other provinces, as well as the members of the Human Rights committee, to supply us with special details about any lost person,” he concluded.   SKH (TR)/SR 255
